This policy covers the UV Me mobile application. The uvmelife.com website is covered separately by the Website Privacy Policy. See also the App Terms of Service and, for California residents, the California Privacy Notice. UV Me is offered in the United States only.
If you use UV Me without an account, the app is limited to the Now tab, and what it records — your skin type, your sun sessions, and your settings — is stored only on your phone and is not transmitted to us. If you create an account, the following items are also synced to your account on our servers so they survive a new phone or a reinstall; see Section 2.
Deleting the app deletes the copy on your phone; we cannot recover it. Anything synced to an account stays on your account until you delete the account (Section 9).
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password | Only if you create an account | To sign you in and sync UV Me Pro across your devices. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes — we never see your password. |
| Username, display name, avatar image | Only if you use social features | So friends can find you. Your username and display name are visible to other users. Your avatar (profile photo) is stored in private cloud storage and only you can see it. |
| Friends, friend requests, squad invitations, meetup RSVPs, leaderboard stats | Only if you use social features | To operate friends, Squad Tan, and leaderboards. |
| Squad Chat messages — the text of a message you send, with the sender, the two participants, and the time | When you send a chat message | To deliver 1:1 chats between accepted friends. Text and emoji only — no photos or links. A conversation is readable only by its two members, under database rules that enforce this, and chat is limited to accepted friends of the same age group (a user under 18 and an adult are never placed in the same conversation). Deleting a conversation hides it from your own inbox only: the other person keeps their copy, the messages stay stored so they can still be reported, and the conversation returns to your inbox if they send a new message. Your messages are deleted when you delete your account. |
| Squad Tan meetup details you create — city, location, meeting point, date, note | When you create or join a meetup | To show the meetup to invitees, or publicly if you make it public. Do not enter a home address. |
| Camera image (AI Skin Scan) | Only when you run a scan | Analysed for skin phototype, then immediately deleted. See Section 3. |
| Coach messages and planner inputs | When you use Goldie Glow | Sent to our backend and on to our AI provider to generate a reply. So her answers build on your personal skin profile, each message also carries the profile the app holds for you: skin type, current UV and today's hourly forecast, your Skin Limit, recent logged sessions, Skin Memory (if on), your active plan, upcoming trips, your place name, and whether your account is under 18 (so Goldie follows stricter sun-safety rules). Not permanently stored by us beyond your device's local history. |
| Goldie question packs | If you buy a question pack | A record of each pack purchase (the Apple transaction ID, the product, the date) and your remaining question balance, stored under database rules that let only you read your balance. Used to give you the questions you paid for, return a question if Goldie fails to answer, and handle refunds. Deleted when you delete your account. |
| AI usage records — for each request to an AI feature: which feature, the time, the size of the request and the reply, the cost, and whether it succeeded | When you use Goldie, the Skin Scan, Glow Plans, Goldie's read on your Journey, shop picks or other AI features | To enforce monthly limits and question balances, control what AI costs us, and spot errors. Linked to your account. The record never contains your message, Goldie's answer or your photo. When you delete your account, the link to you is removed and only the anonymous cost figures remain. |
| Approximate location | When you grant permission | Sent to our weather providers to fetch your UV index and forecast (to Open-Meteo through our own servers, rounded to about 1 km; to NOAA / National Weather Service for sky conditions; and to currentuvindex.com for a satellite UV reading, rounded to about 1 km), to Apple's built-in location service on your phone to show your city name (with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service as a backup, rounded to about 1 km), and to our own servers to find beaches and meetups near you and to confirm you are at a beach you vote on. Used in the moment; we do not store your location — the only location saved with a beach vote is your distance from that beach. |
| Crash and diagnostic reports | If the app crashes | Sent to our crash-reporting provider so we can fix it. Includes device model, OS version, and a technical stack trace. Not used to identify you. |
| Subscription status | If you subscribe | Managed by Apple and our subscription provider. We never receive your card number. |
| Your app data — skin type, sun sessions, SPF logs, vacation plans, glow plans, challenges, milestones, meetups, friends, and settings | Only if you create an account | Synced to your account so it can be restored on another device. Stored under database rules that let only you read it. Deleted when you delete your account. |
| Skin Memory (optional, Pro) — information you provide voluntarily: your Yes/No answers to the after-session alert, together with the session each answer belongs to (its length, UV index, SPF and skin type), and the personal limit calculated from your answers | Only if you turn Skin Memory on, and only when you answer an alert | To adjust your Skin Limit toward your own skin's behavior as observed and recorded by you. Stored under database rules that let only you read it. Turning Skin Memory off deletes it; it is also deleted with your account. |
| Glow Diary (progress) photos and glow photos | Only if you are signed in | Backed up to private cloud storage under your account. Private by default. A glow you share goes on your Glow Ring, where only your accepted friends can see it in the app for 24 hours. Glows are never shown publicly to other UV Me users. A glow also stores the tagline and place name you add to it and the UV index at the time. Deleted when you delete your account. A photo you submit to Glow Spotlight is handled separately, as described in the Glow Spotlight row below. |
| Beach contributions — beaches you favorite, star ratings, condition and amenity reports (including any note you write), attribute votes, edits you propose, and new beaches you submit | When you use the Beach tab with an account | To run the beach guide for everyone. Ratings, reports, votes, edits, and submissions are shared community content and remain part of the guide after you delete your account, with your identity removed (Section 9). |
| Glow Spotlight submissions — the photo you submit, a submission code, the time, your username, the 18+ statement you ticked, the Terms version you accepted and when, and your app version and device type | Only if you are 18 or older and submit a glow to be featured | To review it for featuring and as proof that you confirmed you are 18 or older and agreed to have it featured. Stored privately; only UV Me can see it. See Section 8 for how long it is kept. |
| Safety and moderation records — reports you file about a photo, meetup, beach, message, or user; users you block; and a short sample of any text of yours that our content filter rejected | When you report, block, or a filter triggers | To keep the App safe and to act on reports. Some are kept after account deletion (Section 8). |
| Consent records — each time you accept the Terms or switch a research or marketing setting on or off, with the policy version, app version, and platform | When you accept or change a setting | To prove what you agreed to and when. Deleted with your account. |
| Anonymous SPF and meetup behavior events | Only if you are 18+ and opt in to that purpose | Aggregated research. See Section 6. |
When you choose to run a scan, a single image is captured, sent to our backend over an encrypted connection, analysed to estimate your Fitzpatrick skin phototype, and deleted immediately after analysis. We do not keep the image, and there is no gallery of past scans on our servers.
UV Me does not perform facial recognition. We do not create, collect, capture, purchase, or retain any biometric identifier, faceprint, facial template, scan of face geometry, or other biometric information, and we do not use any image to identify you. The scan estimates one thing: how your skin responds to sun. It does not detect or screen for skin cancer, moles, lesions, or any medical condition.
The scan is optional. You can set your skin type by hand and never grant camera access at all.
We use a small set of processors, each limited to performing its function for us:
We also disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
If UV Me LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of its assets, your information may transfer to the new owner as part of that transaction. The new owner must keep honoring this policy for the information it receives, and we will tell you in the App before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
UV Me LLC does not train artificial-intelligence models on your data, and does not permit anyone we share it with to do so. We choose AI providers whose terms prohibit training on the data we send, and we will not knowingly send your content to a provider that trains on it. Provider terms can change and are outside our control — if one changes, we will switch providers, turn off the affected feature, or update this policy and tell you before continuing. As of the Effective Date above we have verified our current provider is contractually barred from training on what we send. See Section 12 of the App Terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. UV Me runs no advertising network and builds no cross-app advertising profile of you.
Your real name (unless you put it in your display name or email us), postal address, phone number, payment card or bank details, government identifiers, precise continuous location tracking or location history, your contacts, your camera roll beyond photos you specifically choose, health records, or any biometric identifier.
UV Me's long-term business includes producing aggregated insight reports about how people actually use sun protection and where sun-lovers gather, and licensing those reports to suncare, skincare, and wellness brands. We want to be direct about that rather than bury it.
These are two different switches in your Profile settings (the first can also be ticked during onboarding as "Help UV Me improve"), each off by default, each adults-only. Turn on either, both, or neither; turning either off costs you no feature and no price difference.
If — and only if — you are 18 or older and you switch this on, the app records an event when you log a sunscreen application. Each event is tied to a randomly generated identifier, not to your name or email, and may include: body zone, product name, SPF level, UV index at the time, Fitzpatrick type, approximate location name, activity context, product form, water-resistance rating, time of day, whether it was a reapplication, and whether you were swimming.
If — and only if — you are 18 or older and you switch this on, the app records an event when you create, share, invite someone to, join, leave, or cancel a Squad Tan meetup, check in at one, confirm afterwards that you attended, or take over hosting one. Each event is tied to a randomly generated identifier, not to your name or email, and may include: the meetup's city and location name, its scheduled time, the UV forecast for it, how many people are going, whether it is public, friends-only, or private, and its activity type (for example Lay Out or Beach Run). It never includes who else was there. We keep this separate from SPF habits on purpose — where you go is more personal than which sunscreen you use — so you can share one without the other.
Where we treat this data as deidentified: we maintain reasonable technical safeguards against reidentification; we publicly commit to keep it deidentified and to make no attempt to reidentify it; and we contractually require every brand partner not to reidentify it, not to combine it with other data to reidentify it, and not to sublicense it. Brand partners receive aggregated insights only — never raw records, never device identifiers — and only where a reporting cell contains enough separate devices to prevent any individual being singled out.
Each switch is off by default. Turning either on or off is a single switch in Settings, takes effect immediately, and costs you no feature and no price difference. Users under 18 are excluded from both entirely and are not shown the opt-ins.
Separately from the switches above, we compute aggregate statistics about how Squad Tan is used — for example how many meetups are created in a city each month, which activities are chosen, typical group sizes, and how many people report attending — from the meetup records we already hold to run the feature. These statistics are counts only, contain no identifiers, and are not linked to any person or device. We use them to understand and improve the feature. If we ever include them in an insight report shared outside UV Me LLC, they are subject to the same aggregation and anti-reidentification commitments described above. Attendance figures are self-reported by attendees; UV Me does not verify who attended.
UV Me is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information; if we learn we have, we delete it. Ask us at support@uvmelife.com if you believe a child has provided information.
Users who indicate they are under 18 get the same app as everyone else, including Pro and Goldie questions if they buy them, with Goldie following stricter sun-safety rules for them, and with behavioral research collection disabled entirely, Glow Spotlight submission blocked, and public meetups unavailable. This exceeds what the law requires and is deliberate. We do not sell or share the personal information of any user we know to be under 16, and we sell no personal information at all.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings inside the app — no email, no form, no waiting. Deletion removes your profile, username, email, avatar, friends, blocks you hold, invitations, glow photos, synced app data, Skin Memory, consent records, and your anonymous research events, and wipes the app's local data on your device. What remains, with your identity removed, is listed in Section 8: beach guide contributions, records of past meetups, a meetup you host that other people are still going to, meetup reports, content-filter samples, Glow Spotlight submission records, any Glow Spotlight photo we featured, and anonymous AI cost figures. It does not cancel your Apple subscription; cancel that in your Apple Account settings.
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Accounts are protected by hashed credentials and database-level access rules that prevent one user reading another's data. Access to production systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it — email support@uvmelife.com. We will not treat you differently for asking.
This subsection is UV Me's California notice for the mobile app. The California Privacy Notice covers the uvmelife.com website only.
Categories of personal information collected in the last 12 months, and why. Identifiers — email address, username, display name (to run your account and social features), and avatar (stored privately, visible only to you). App activity — AI usage records, sun sessions, SPF logs, vacation plans, challenges, milestones, meetups, friends, beach favorites, ratings, reports and submissions, reports and blocks, consent records, settings (to provide the features you use, run the beach guide and social features, keep the App safe, and restore your data on another device). Geolocation — approximate location, used in the moment to fetch your UV index and never stored. Visual information — a camera image when you run a Skin Scan (analysed for skin tone and deleted within seconds), and progress or glow photos you choose to add (stored privately under your account). Inferences — your Fitzpatrick skin tone, whether selected by you or estimated from a scan. Commercial information — subscription status and Goldie question-pack purchases (we never receive your card number). Diagnostic information — crash reports. We collect these from you, from your device, from Apple and our subscription provider, and from our weather provider.
Sensitive personal information. Your skin tone, sun sessions, and SPF logs concern your skin and sun exposure and may be treated as information about your health. We use them only to provide the features you request (your limits, your logs, your sync) and to keep the App working, which are purposes for which California law does not require a right-to-limit option. We do not use them to infer characteristics about you for any other purpose, we do not sell them, and we do not share them for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Disclosures. We disclose personal information only to the service providers listed in Section 4, each limited to performing its function for us. We have not sold or shared personal information in the preceding 12 months, we do not sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16, and we offer no financial incentive in exchange for personal information.
Anonymous SPF and meetup research is opt-in for California users too. If you are 18 or older you may switch on "Share Sun-Care Habits" and/or "Share Meetup Activity" in your Profile settings on exactly the terms in Section 6; it is off until you do, and switching it off stops all future collection. Those events are tied to a random identifier rather than to you, we publicly commit not to reidentify them and contractually bind our partners the same way, and brands receive aggregated insights only. Information handled that way is deidentified information under California law, and licensing aggregated reports built from it is not a sale or sharing of your personal information.
Retention. As set out in Section 8.
Your rights. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither); to limit use of sensitive personal information (we already use it only for permitted purposes, and you may still ask); and not to be discriminated against for exercising any right. To exercise them: delete your account from Settings inside the App, which removes your account, synced data, and photos; or email support@uvmelife.com from the address on your account, which is how we verify it is you. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with your written permission. We respond within 45 days, extendable once by 45 days where the law allows.
Washington's My Health My Data Act and similar laws treat some information about a person's health — potentially including sun-exposure and skin data — as consumer health data. We do not sell consumer health data. Washington and Nevada residents may ask us to confirm what consumer health data we hold, to withdraw consent to its collection, and to delete it, by emailing support@uvmelife.com.
UV Me is not a medical device and gives no medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. See Sections 6, 7 and 18 of the App Terms of Service.
UV Me sells no products in the Shop. Its Skin, Beach and Reads shelves link to third-party retailers, and its Rx Skin tab links to third-party telehealth providers. UV Me LLC earns commissions on qualifying purchases, including on products recommended by the Goldie Glow coach, as an Amazon Associate and through other affiliate programs. This never changes your price. See 16 C.F.R. Part 255.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified in the App and the "Effective" date updated. If a change materially expands how we use data you already gave us, we will ask you to accept it again.
